Marielle Franco do you know who she was ? She was a Brazilian politician, feminist, and human rights activist. She was murdered in Rio in March 2018.
When I walk in the streets I look around and read the clues left on the ground, the walls, the sky, the leafs and more.
Street art has always triggered my interest. It’s now widely accepted. It is also one of the only medium for people to make their point of view public. When you arrive to a new city for example, you arrive to by the outskirts of the city and you can then feel the temperature ! Feel how people live and feel alive in these cities. The past couple of years around the globe 🌏 I would notice more and more graffitis ! Words and words, or insults or tags… people were / are troubled and angry and it’s one of the way of expressing it ( wether you approve of the public dégradation, I do not wish to enter this side of the discussion).
Anyhow now a days people look up to these beautiful street art pieces popping everywhere. I do to. And I do make a difference between graffitis and street art, same medium of expression a tone of difference, even if comes from the same root. ( again could write a lot about that as well, maybe in another post).
I heard for the first time of Marielle when I was walking around Saõ Paulo. I turned my head and saw : these big stairs and street art portraying a woman, and words repeatedly written ! Who murdered Marielle ? ( quem Matou Marielle ?)

And in this case they were made to celebrate Marielle Franco. How she unfairly perished, how she lived and what she stood up for.
The city gave her name to the stairs and I learned about her.
Look up for more… just google her name.
Réflection : on life, art, and the combination of both in our society ! The need to express ourselves ! Our ways of preserving memories ! An homage, a fight, many ways to approach all this.
Best
